Paycom Center Got an Upgrade

March 2, 2022 By Janie Leave a Comment

Paycom Center is Oklahoma City’s premier sports and entertainment venue located downtown at 100 W. Reno Ave. The facility is managed by ASM Global but owned by the City of Oklahoma City.

History of Paycom Center

MAPS, Oklahoma City’s visionary capital improvement program, funded the original construction of Paycom Center in 1999. However, the city’s residents voted to fund the renovation project, upgrading the facilities and encouraging Oklahoma City’s overall growth into new sports, entertainment, conventions and cultural events.

The facility opened on June 8, 2002, with an initial cost of $89.2 million. Opening celebrations included a dedication ceremony led by Mayor Kirk Humphreys. In addition, there was a unique open house ceremony for the surrounding community to take a sneak peek.

Since it opened its doors, Paycom Center has hosted more than 1,200 events and seen more than 10 million fans walk through the doors. Since the beginning of the 2008-09 NBA season, the arena has served as the home of the Oklahoma City Thunder. It has also been home to the Oklahoma City Blazers and Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, as well as world-class concerts, top-tier entertainment, major conventions and other sporting events.

Ways To Improve Your Travel Literacy

October 11, 2018 By Carole Erickson Leave a Comment

Ways To Improve Your Travel Literacy

Ways To Improve Your Travel LiteracyTravelers strive to go “where no man has gone before” or they travel to origins of their personal family beginnings.

Today’s travelers are far more diverse in the choice of travel sites. These choices are often based on ideas or inspirations they’ve gotten from several sources. These include:
. Books on travel
. Travel documentaries by travel experts
. Experienced travel agents
. Recommendations of family, other relatives and friends

Travel Literacy – Learning Curves Par Excellence

Travel isn’t just about planning a travel itinerary, working out travel arrangements with travel agents or jaunts to domestic or international travel sites.

It is also about details that can make travel complex and/or not as enjoyable as it should be. The best way to become travel literate is to prepare in advance to learn as much about the intended travel destinations as possible.

The travel literate individual is endowed with knowledge of the travel world so they are well prepared before they set off from parts unknown.

The Cost of Travel Education

Surprisingly, students of travel who wish to expand their knowledge of travel find that advanced learning about travel is not costly and well worth the time and small investments involved.

Take note there are similarities in nearly all forms of travel. These include, language, currency, time zones and inherent cultural norms in each region traveled. For example in the U.S., it is important to know there are six time zones: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska and Hawaii. Also, not all states observe Daylight Saving Time. For example, Arizona does not, but even in this state the exception is the Native American Navajo regions that do.

Travel plans to U.S. territories like the U.S. Virgin Island, Guam, Hawaii, Samoa, Puerto Rico and the Northern Marianas Islands do not observe Daylight Saving Time.

To be more literate about international time zones, rely on numerous books, a wristwatch or alarm clock that provides multiple time zones.

All travelers need to be basically literate in each travel region’s currency. World travelers should study ahead of travel plans the currency within each of the countries, if they plan to purchase souvenirs or other goods.

Don’t forget to study the goods countries consider duty free. Learn more about passports, and visas, travelers cheques and accepted credit cards for international travel.

To adapt to languages, there are numerous software applications and devices that are available for language translations

Cultural Norms And Travel Literacy

To avoid appearing to be a novice traveler, take the time to study each travel destination’s cultural norms. Some of these are related to the country’s religion, such as in Middle Eastern nations and others are related to a country’s traditions. These affect dining and sleeping accommodations, as well as the type of travel wardrobe considered appropriate.

Travel Insurance

Finally, travel insurance is another issue to study to improve your travel literacy. Travel insurance may cover lost luggage, trip and accommodation cancellations, accidents due to auto, rail or airline negligence and miscellaneous losses. Be certain all terms of travel insurance are clearly understood.

Tips For Traveling With A Pet

October 2, 2018 By Jennifer Liana Leave a Comment

Tips For Traveling With A Pet

Tips For Traveling With A Pet

Are you considering taking a trip to an exotic location with your friend or family member? Are you a dog owner who is a little uncertain about what to expect while traveling? If so, maybe these few tips will get you started. And lead you on the right path on when to take your pet with you and how to make your hotel stay successful.

Your pet is unique and special to you, it is important to plan accordingly so that your canine friend is comfortable during your unforgettable getaway.

Double Check Hidden Pet Fee’s

Some hotels will have restrictions on the age and size of an animal. For example, puppies are not accepted in most cases because they are not fully developed and can disrupt their surroundings because of their lack of training. Fees can transform, it is best to understand if a fee is a daily or a one-time flat fee.

Hotels with non-refundable deposits need to be clear and concise on their terms and conditions. Look for an itemized list of directions or have the front desk representative explain the charges.

Look For Surrounding Locations Suitable For Your Dog

Try choosing a hotel that can offer your canine friend a walking area. You will want to be away from busy paths and roads. Chain motels should be your last choice since they are located near busy highways. This is not every chain motel, however, it is best to ask in advance so you are familiar with the surrounding before booking a room.

Request A Ground-Floor Room Or A Spacious Room

Ask for a ground floor room, this will be convenient during your stay because you will eliminate the long walks for late-night potty visits. Plus, some hotels do not have elevators, imagine walking up and down the stairs during the night because your special friend has to use the bathroom.

If you can, request a suite or spacious room for your pet. This will give your pet the room he/she needs to feel relaxed. Don’t underestimate the quality of a suite, having a kitchen, bathroom and a special room for your dog can give you and the pet a little space during your stay.

Bonus Tip: Use A Crate Or Carrier

If you decide to leave your pet in a room while you visit local shops or casual dining. Make sure that employees know you have a pet in the room. This will be helpful in case a worker has to enter the room when you are not in it. To minimize any misunderstandings, place your pet in a crate or a carrier while you are away from the room. You can also hang a “do not disturb” sign on your door if that makes you comfortable.

Remember, it is not a good idea to leave your dog unattended for long periods of time. If you think you will be out of the room for an extensive time frame, hire a doggy daycare assistant or dog walking service. In some areas, hotels would be more than happy to assist you with finding a well-reviewed sitter to fit your needs.

The 5 Worst Fashion Mistakes You Make When Traveling

September 26, 2018 By Conrad Nunez Leave a Comment

The 5 Worst Fashion Mistakes You Make When Traveling

The 5 Worst Fashion Mistakes You Make When Traveling

You love to travel but every time you go somewhere, there seems to be an issue with your wardrobe. Five of the most common mistakes travelers make when it comes to packing needed clothing include the following:

Not Packing For The Weather

Research the temp and the precipitation of the area you are visiting before leaving on your trip. This will help you decide on the outerwear and the layering that you will need. No sense in packing bulky rain boots if it is not going to rain.

Purchasing Clothing That Wrinkles

There are so many individuals who travel now that there are entire companies that devote themselves to wrinkle-free, flat- folding attire. These clothing lines are real life-savers when the purpose of your trip is on the formal side. The last thing you want to do is show up for a business dinner, looking like you have been tossed around in the back of a taxi for hours.

There are luxury clothing companies that specialize in clothing articles made specifically for travel. They pack tightly, don’t wrinkle, and look fantastic as soon as you put them on.

Packing Too Many Items

Face it, most individuals pack too much clothing. This makes luggage more of a hassle than it needs to be. Choose one color and make that one color the basis of your entire wardrobe for that particular trip. And it doesn’t always have to be black. It can also be navy, gray, brown, khaki, or even teal. You can pick up extra accessories and items along the way to expand on your selections – just don’t get carried away or you will end up right where you started, with way too many clothes.

Packing At The Last Minute

If you wait until the very last minute to pack your wardrobe, you may find that you will forget some integral items. As soon as you know that a trip is in the forthcoming future begin a list of what you will need to bring. Put your suitcase out and begin placing items in it. You can always take them out and use them if you have to.

Failing To Pack Appropriate Accessories And Coordinating Footwear

You can truly limit your wardrobe by neglecting to pack jewelry, accessories, and appropriate footwear. If you stick to a color scheme, this will definitely assist in keeping your selections to a bare minimum. Just keep it is simple as possible.

5 Tips For Cheap Family Travel!

September 19, 2018 By Conrad Nunez Leave a Comment

5 Tips For Cheap Family Travel!

5 Tips For Cheap Family Travel!

Traveling across the world is something that everyone needs to experience. Now, traveling with your family on the other hand, can be sort of a hassle. Prices are higher, more people to take care of, but that does not mean you can’t make the best of it. Here are my top 5 tips for cheap family traveling to maybe help you save a few bucks here and there.

1. Avoid Travel Season

If possible try to stay away from peak season traveling at all cost! Prices tend to jump up greatly during the holidays such as, Christmas, Easter, or just summer in general. Not only will you save money avoiding these holidays but your experience will be that much better in a less busy location!

2. Be Adaptable While Booking Your Flight

Plane tickets are half the battle while trying to travel. Just remember, it does not matter how you get there, as long as you get there. By that i mean, you do not have to spend all of your money on a one way flight. If you have the time and you aren’t in a rush book a flight with a few stop overs. Yes, it is longer but tends to be cheaper as well.

3. Travel With Friends

Traveling with friends not only enhances the experience but also can save your family money. You can split the cost of the hotel, the rental car, and the food. You are on a budget so remember, don’t be embarrassed about cramming into a room with your buddies. Or you all could pitch in to rent out an entire house on Airbnb, which possibly could be way cheaper.

4. Walk (Mostly) Everywhere!

Now I know, while on vacation especially with your family, walking can be tough. But if you can find a cheap hotel right next to your desired location you can save loads of money. Walking saves you the trouble of all the rental car fees, gas, or calling an Uber which will take your whole budget for a 10 mile drive. So if you can, walk! It’s also healthy for you so win-win.

5. Spend Money Only When You Have To

Just because you are on vacation with your family, you don’t have to go to a 5 star restaurant. Honestly, depending on where you are, eating like a local can be a way better (and cheaper) experience. And yes, you are technically a tourist but that does not mean you have to look like one. Stay away from all the fancy T-shirts and coffee mugs that will only get you in trouble. Instead of spending money on small things that you really do not need, save that money and splurge on one big experience that the whole family can enjoy.

Being on a budget should never stop you from enjoying quality time with your family. Of course traveling on a budget has it’s difficulties but at the end of the day making memories with loved ones is absolutely priceless.
