Sinclair Broadcast Group Teams With American Red Cross and Other Collection Centers Across America

July 10, 2021 By Carole Erickson Leave a Comment

Baltimore, MD., June 30, 2021 – On July 14, 2021, Sinclair Broadcast Group announced that the company’s “Sinclair Cares: Roll Up Your Sleeves” program has partnered with the American Red Cross. Sinclair Broadcast Group urges viewers to book blood donation appointments to help stock up blood supplies in hospitals across the country through the initiative. Besides, people can also support the cause financially or volunteer their time. July 14 marked World Blood Donor Day, and the campaign is expected to last up to July 23.

Rallying Americans Together

The COVID-19 pandemic nurtured a sense to support the needy among Americans, and people are more ready to participate in blood donations. It also impacted hospitals because many had to defer treatments or delay surgical procedures. As healthcare facilities recover from the pandemic, the demand for blood products has sky-rocketed, and now there’s more shortage than the pre-pandemic levels. The American Red Cross is doing every possible thing to reverse the deficit. However, it still requires community support to ensure that hospitals have enough blood products to cater to patients in need of critical treatment procedures.

“As the nation’s healthcare systems continue to recover from the pandemic, we shouldn’t forget that the need for blood products never stops,” Sinclair CEO Christopher Ripley said. “Through its Sinclair Cares: Roll Up Your Sleeves initiative, SBG has partnered with the American Red Cross and other blood donation centers across the country. Sinclair will leverage its media presence to implore the community to donate blood to end the shortage and ensure that their fellow Americans in hospitals get the much-needed blood-reliant care. Millions of people require blood donations, and it’s crucial to create mass awareness on how people can help solve the blood shortage problem.”

Increased Willingness to Donate Blood

In 2020, Sinclair’s blood-donation campaign managed to collect 2,000 units of donated blood successfully. Following the success, more individuals have booked appointments to donate blood this year.

Sinclair has also nudged its affiliated local news outlets to join the movement to ensure that the campaign’s outreach expands. That includes Tennis Channel, Marquee Sports Network, Bally Sports Networks, and Sinclair-owned and operated digital channels. Sinclair Broadcast Group has opened its media outlet websites to provide platforms where individuals, communities, and organizations can partake in the campaign. It will also guide how the public can get involved through its national website sinclarecares.com.

If you’d like to support the “Sinclair Cares: Roll Up Your Sleeves” initiative, please visit sinclarecares.com. Your support will be highly appreciated.

How Getting More Sleep Could Help You Lose Weight

October 11, 2018 By Conrad Nunez Leave a Comment

How Getting More Sleep Could Help You Lose Weight

How Getting More Sleep Could Help You Lose Weight

With life being so fast-paced, it’s no wonder why lack of sleep adds to the unwanted weight gain we tend to fuss over while attempting to fit jeans that once fit so well. Lack of sleep is definitely one of those variables one must consider when deciding to get on the intimidating scale. There are many ways to avoid excessive weight gain and sleep is one of them.

The College Student

If we consider the college student, it is not uncommon for one to fall under the category of ‘freshmen fifteen’ which is basically known as the time in a college students life when gaining 10 to 15 pounds in the first year is known to happen. In extreme cases this can occur during the first few semesters. The life of a freshman in college, especially for those living on college grounds, consists of getting to know their surroundings, attempting to keep up their grades and GPA through long hours of study, and keeping up with their social life. All this including the anxiety that comes along with being away from home, some for the first time, adds to the stress of becoming an independent adult. It’s no secret some people tend to stress eat. All the hours of studying and late night snacking equates to an unhealthy amount of weight gain. Countless college students can testify to the fact that ordering late-night pizzas for a study cram isn’t unusual.

Unhealthy Midnight Snacking

The truth about snacking is that it can be healthy and encourage a well rounded nutritional lifestyle. Depending on how busy one’s schedule is, however, unhealthy snack choices are always easier. For those who work various hours and times of the evening, not being prepared can lead to weight gain brought on by those unhealthy snacks. Taking naps during the allotted 10-15 minute breaks rather than snacking from the vending machines is sure to cut some unwanted calories from one’s diet which adds to unwanted weight gain.

The Night Owl

There is something to be said about putting the body at rest. When one sleeps, it gives the body a chance to recuperate and rejuvenate itself. Foods that we’ve already eaten will be digested, and all sorts of wonderful things happen within our body as we sleep, this includes weight loss. When we sleep, we don’t eat. The night owls who tend to be awake all sorts of hours of the night, tend to consume more food for the sake of consumption. We don’t always eat when we’re hungry, and we‘re not always hungry when we eat, this is truer when we stay awake throughout the night. Eating becomes something to do to pass the time rather than something required to live. Very few are grabbing a salad pass midnight or an apple instead of cookies around two in the morning. Being asleep during those times will only aid in keeping one’s weight at a healthier level. So curb that appetite and go to sleep.

Ways To Improve Your Travel Literacy

October 11, 2018 By Carole Erickson Leave a Comment

Ways To Improve Your Travel Literacy

Ways To Improve Your Travel LiteracyTravelers strive to go “where no man has gone before” or they travel to origins of their personal family beginnings.

Today’s travelers are far more diverse in the choice of travel sites. These choices are often based on ideas or inspirations they’ve gotten from several sources. These include:
. Books on travel
. Travel documentaries by travel experts
. Experienced travel agents
. Recommendations of family, other relatives and friends

Travel Literacy – Learning Curves Par Excellence

Travel isn’t just about planning a travel itinerary, working out travel arrangements with travel agents or jaunts to domestic or international travel sites.

It is also about details that can make travel complex and/or not as enjoyable as it should be. The best way to become travel literate is to prepare in advance to learn as much about the intended travel destinations as possible.

The travel literate individual is endowed with knowledge of the travel world so they are well prepared before they set off from parts unknown.

The Cost of Travel Education

Surprisingly, students of travel who wish to expand their knowledge of travel find that advanced learning about travel is not costly and well worth the time and small investments involved.

Take note there are similarities in nearly all forms of travel. These include, language, currency, time zones and inherent cultural norms in each region traveled. For example in the U.S., it is important to know there are six time zones: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska and Hawaii. Also, not all states observe Daylight Saving Time. For example, Arizona does not, but even in this state the exception is the Native American Navajo regions that do.

Travel plans to U.S. territories like the U.S. Virgin Island, Guam, Hawaii, Samoa, Puerto Rico and the Northern Marianas Islands do not observe Daylight Saving Time.

To be more literate about international time zones, rely on numerous books, a wristwatch or alarm clock that provides multiple time zones.

All travelers need to be basically literate in each travel region’s currency. World travelers should study ahead of travel plans the currency within each of the countries, if they plan to purchase souvenirs or other goods.

Don’t forget to study the goods countries consider duty free. Learn more about passports, and visas, travelers cheques and accepted credit cards for international travel.

To adapt to languages, there are numerous software applications and devices that are available for language translations

Cultural Norms And Travel Literacy

To avoid appearing to be a novice traveler, take the time to study each travel destination’s cultural norms. Some of these are related to the country’s religion, such as in Middle Eastern nations and others are related to a country’s traditions. These affect dining and sleeping accommodations, as well as the type of travel wardrobe considered appropriate.

Travel Insurance

Finally, travel insurance is another issue to study to improve your travel literacy. Travel insurance may cover lost luggage, trip and accommodation cancellations, accidents due to auto, rail or airline negligence and miscellaneous losses. Be certain all terms of travel insurance are clearly understood.

A Serving Of Apple Cider Vinegar A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

October 2, 2018 By Jaime Summers Leave a Comment

4 Ways Apple Cider Vinegar Could Improve Your Health

A Serving Of Apple Cider Vinegar A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. We’ve all heard this old adage, but what about apple cider vinegar? New research is emerging that touts the health benefits of apple cider vinegar, commonly referred to as ACV. Whether you are looking to shed extra pounds, reduce acid reflux, or fight cancer, the answer might be waiting in your kitchen.

Reduce Acid Reflux With 2 Tablespoons of ACV In A Glass of Water

There are many causes of acid reflux, but a common one is low acidity level in the stomach. Consuming 2 tablespoons of ACV in a glass of water may help regulate stomach acidity, soothing acid reflux before it even begins. Stopping reflux isn’t just about comfort. It can also reduce your risk factor for some forms of esophageal cancer. They polyphenols in the vinegar have also been known to prevent cell damage that could potentially cause any form of cancer. The benefits don’t there; a healthy stomach PH level also helps prevent an overgrowth of unhealthy gut flora. An imbalance of stomach bacteria can lead to foul smelling gas, so do us all a favor and drink your water with ACV.

Soothe Eczema

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis is painful, many times embarrassing and can be dangerous. The cause of eczema is still unknown, but many researchers believe it could be triggered by Staphylococcus aureus. Those suffering with eczema usually have colonies of these bacteria on their skin. Since their skin is prone to open wounds, it’s not unusual for people with eczema to contract staph infections. Individuals with eczema are able to reduce the risk of contracting the skin infection and many times soothe their symptoms with a bath containing 2 or 3 cups of ACV. The antimicrobial properties of the vinegar reduce the amount of bacteria on the skin, allowing it to heal.

Control Your Blood Sugar

In a small study, type 2 diabetics were able to prevent spikes in their blood sugar by consuming 2 tablespoons of ACV in a glass of water with a meal. The mechanism that could prevent a blood sugar spike is still unknown, but is thought to be acetic acid from ACV.

Cut Down on Cravings

Simple carbohydrates and sugar can be difficult to avoid, especially if you have a sweet tooth. Eating a carb heavy meal can cause your blood sugar to spike. This causes cravings for even more carbs. By consuming 2 tablespoons of ACV alongside your plate of pasta, you can prevent cravings for sugar and carbs later.

If you decide to utilize apple cider vinegar to benefit your health, remember these next few things. Never apply ACV directly to your skin, dilute it first. If you’re consuming the vinegar, don’t drink it alone. Mix it into another liquid. Finally, don’t use ACV to replace any medications you’re taking without first consulting your doctor.

Tips For Traveling With A Pet

October 2, 2018 By Jennifer Liana Leave a Comment

Tips For Traveling With A Pet

Tips For Traveling With A Pet

Are you considering taking a trip to an exotic location with your friend or family member? Are you a dog owner who is a little uncertain about what to expect while traveling? If so, maybe these few tips will get you started. And lead you on the right path on when to take your pet with you and how to make your hotel stay successful.

Your pet is unique and special to you, it is important to plan accordingly so that your canine friend is comfortable during your unforgettable getaway.

Double Check Hidden Pet Fee’s

Some hotels will have restrictions on the age and size of an animal. For example, puppies are not accepted in most cases because they are not fully developed and can disrupt their surroundings because of their lack of training. Fees can transform, it is best to understand if a fee is a daily or a one-time flat fee.

Hotels with non-refundable deposits need to be clear and concise on their terms and conditions. Look for an itemized list of directions or have the front desk representative explain the charges.

Look For Surrounding Locations Suitable For Your Dog

Try choosing a hotel that can offer your canine friend a walking area. You will want to be away from busy paths and roads. Chain motels should be your last choice since they are located near busy highways. This is not every chain motel, however, it is best to ask in advance so you are familiar with the surrounding before booking a room.

Request A Ground-Floor Room Or A Spacious Room

Ask for a ground floor room, this will be convenient during your stay because you will eliminate the long walks for late-night potty visits. Plus, some hotels do not have elevators, imagine walking up and down the stairs during the night because your special friend has to use the bathroom.

If you can, request a suite or spacious room for your pet. This will give your pet the room he/she needs to feel relaxed. Don’t underestimate the quality of a suite, having a kitchen, bathroom and a special room for your dog can give you and the pet a little space during your stay.

Bonus Tip: Use A Crate Or Carrier

If you decide to leave your pet in a room while you visit local shops or casual dining. Make sure that employees know you have a pet in the room. This will be helpful in case a worker has to enter the room when you are not in it. To minimize any misunderstandings, place your pet in a crate or a carrier while you are away from the room. You can also hang a “do not disturb” sign on your door if that makes you comfortable.

Remember, it is not a good idea to leave your dog unattended for long periods of time. If you think you will be out of the room for an extensive time frame, hire a doggy daycare assistant or dog walking service. In some areas, hotels would be more than happy to assist you with finding a well-reviewed sitter to fit your needs.
